Cocoa and Honey Lip Balm
This time of year we absolutely love making lip balm for our friends. This recipe has been adapted and tweaked over the years. The weekend Brook leaves for deer camp is the weekend the girls and I get out our DIY supplies and start “Elving” for Christmas.
Make sure to use organic ingredients in this recipe. What you put on your skin is absorbed into your blood stream in 26 seconds. Always use the best ingredients.
COCOA AND HONEY LIP BALM
8 TBLS Beesewax source locally first or here
3 TBLS cocoa butter
1 TBLS shea butter
1 tsp vitamin e oil
1 TBLS of local raw honey
OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS :
1 inch piece of a natural lipstick to add color.
30 or more drops of your favorite Young Living essential oil (I used lavender/peppermint and clove/grapefruit combos)
Place all ingredients in a wide mouth mason jar and place in a water bath on the stove. Melt all ingredients. While you are waiting for the mixture to melt arrange your tubes or containers. We made a tube holder out of a piece of wood. Brook drilled holes in the wood to hold the tubes in place. When everything is melted and tubes in place, use a medicine syringe to suck up the liquid and shoot it into the tubes. Let cool and cap the tubes. It is a pretty simple and easy method. You can put a cap on your mason jar and label the flavor. Then you can easily make more or reheat the leftovers later.
We have since upgraded to a really easy to use chap stick making kit. Find it here. If you are looking for more natural chapstick tubes we also like these kraft paper tubes
